2015 Packing Dates
Mark your calendars now!

January is here, and that meant it was time for’s first Care Package Project pack day of 2014! On Saturday, January 25, 45 volunteers, including 14 members of Boy Scout Troop 434 from Beaufort, MO, braved a cold, blustery morning to show their support for our troops by coming to our corporate office in Columbia, MO, to pack and ship care packages to Marines deployed to Afghanistan.

Volunteers began showing up around 8am, and by 8:30, the day was ready to begin.’s new Outreach Programs Coordinator Candice kicked off the morning by welcoming the volunteers, 24 of whom were brand new to the Marine Parents volunteer family and experiencing their first pack day (like Candice herself), and introducing our staff members who were on hand to help keep things running smoothly. Following the introductions, as she's done at almost every pack day since 2005, Sandy Deraps led the group in a prayer, and then it was time for the packing to begin!

This time around, we sent out more than 500 care packages. The Marines received Girl Scout cookies, granola bars, ramen noodles, books, dvd/cd's, socks, razors, candy, toiletries, cigars, toothpaste, toothbrushes, cards and letters, pens and pencils, postcards for the soldiers to write back to MarineParents (should they choose to), and MarineParents brochures. In addition, our “Souper Hero” campaign raised almost $4,500 for this pack day, allowing us to send many hand-warmers, balaclavas, and cans of soup to our Marines as they try to stay warm this winter.

After the volunteers finished packing the boxes to send our Marines, we held a raffle to raise money for our CPP general operating fund. A St. Louis Cardinals blanket, an EGA duffle bag filled with Marine Corps items, and a $50 EGA Shop gift card were the three items auctioned off and were a pleasant, unexpected surprise for the three winners.

As always, we would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to everyone who made this most recent pack day possible. Without the hard work and generosity of you, the MarineParents family, none of this would be possible, and we truly appreciate all that you do on behalf of our Marines.
