November is here, and so is the Marine Corps' birthday (Nov. 10). In honor of this special day, 21 volunteers from across the Midwest converged on our corporate office in Columbia, Missouri last Saturday, November 2, 2013, to participate in our final pack day of the year.
Volunteers began showing up around 8am, and by 8:30, the day was ready to begin. MarineParents.com Founder and Executive Director Tracy Della Vecchia kicked off the morning by introducing our newest staff members, many of whom were experiencing their first pack day. Tracy then proceeded to inform the volunteers of a raffle being held to raise money for a wife who, while 8 months pregnat, has had to uproot her life and fly from Japan to the Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland to be near her husband. In addition,
Ephesians 6:15 Sock Ministry was recognized for the generous donation they made to this pack day, and Operation Prayers and Letters manager Angie Regan spoke about the program for those volunteers who were interested in getting involved.
This time around, we sent out almost 700 care packages. 582 packages went to Marines, 100 were sent to soldiers, and 2 went to K-9 units. The human warriors received Girl Scout cookies, granola bars, ramen noodles, books, dvd/cd's, socks, razors, candy, toiletries, cigars, toothpaste, toothbrushes, cards and letters, pens and pencils, postcards for the soldiers to write back to MarineParents (should they choose to), and MarineParents brochures. The K-9 warriors received brand new tennis balls.
As always, we would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to everyone who made this most recent pack day possible. Without the hard work and generosity of you, the MarineParents family, none of this would be possible, and we truly appreciate all that you do on behalf of our Marines.
