The MarineParents.com, Inc. Care Package Project is growing daily! We have now sent over 3,300 care packages to the Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan since January, 2005.
- October 22-23, 2005 from our Columbia, Missouri Facility: 740 Care Packages completed
The first 542 were finished and picked up by the post office at 4:00 on Saurday. The remainder were packed and ready for the post office to pick up at 2:00 on Sunday. We had 18 volunteers on Saturday from Columbia, Moberly, St. Louis and Kingston Missouri including a 3/24 Marine and his wife, plus the MarineParents.com founder's son, Cpl Derrick Jensen, a 3/4 Marine veteran of OIF I, II, and III. On Sunday we had 2 volunteers from Moberly, and 10 volunteers from Columbia, MO, 6 of whom are students from the University of Missouri as well as Cpl Jensen and his wife and daughter.
Each month we rotate names in and out of the database. In the previous two months, we had added over 400 new names of Marines that had recently arrived in Iraq or Afghanistan. With the cooler weather, we sent hot drink mixes in addition to the cold drink mixes, hand warmers, and as always, batteries, t-shirts, socks, Hormel meals in a tray, ravioli and shavemate razors! We also sent ShaveMan battery powered razors as well as items donated by Rotary Clubs of Texas, the City of Roseville, CA, an elementary school in Anaheim, CA, the people from the city of Waterville, WA, the Aurora Skate Center in Illinois, and dozens of other contributions from around the United States.
- August 20-21, 2005 from our Columbia, Missouri Facility: 730 Care Packages
We packed and shipped 730 care packages to Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan for the month of August, 2005. We had over 14 volunteers here on Saturday and 8 volunteers on Sunday. The volunteers drove in from other towns radius of about 70 miles. It was hot and sweaty work, but not nearly as hot as it is in Iraq!
- June 11-12, 2005 from our Columbia, Missouri Facility: 724 Care Packages
We packed and shipped 725 care packages to Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan for the month of June, 2005. Our database grows daily, with cards and letters from Marines overseas asking us to send packages to their comrades who aren't getting packages or letters from home.
- April 24, 2005 from our Columbia, Missouri Facility: 516 Care Packages
We shipped 516 care packages from Columbia, Missouri the week of April 24, 2005. The care packages included ShaveMate razors, boot insoles, food items, powdered drink mixes, and a variety of toiletries donated by the supporting citizens in the community of Columbia, Missouri.
- March 20, 2005 from our Columbia, Missouri Facility: 300 Care Packages
We shipped 300 cases of Girl Scout Cookies donated to the Care Package Project by the Girl Scouts of Housatonic Council, Inc. in Bridgeport, CT. Members of our web site joined together to donate over $4000 in shipping costs to get the cookies to our Marines in Iraq.
- February 12, 2005 from our Elk Grove Village, Illinois Facility: 155 Care Packages
February's shipment including hundreds of packages of batteries, several hundred pair of socks, and lots of food and toiletry items. Nicholas Larson's family was there to assist with the care package packing along with two additional Gold Star Families. The "packing party" was an amazing event filled with warmth and compassion from the Marine Corps families and friends.
- January 23, 2005 from our Beaumont, Texas Facility: 138 Care Packages
The care packages included items donated from folks around the United States, including over 1700 packages of cigarettes donated from listeners of Clear Channel KEX, Portland, Oregon. Each pack was signed with "best wishes" and "we support you". Other items included a DVD player, food and snack items and toiletries.
We've included a self-addressed postcard and an ink pen in each care package hoping that a few of the Marines may have time to write a quick note that they have received the care package. We've heard from Marines from the first two shipments, and it's too early to report on the March shipment.
Thank you for your continued support!
